Trophée des rois rowing cup

Lead Organisation :

Venue : Versailles

Date : 2007-04-28

On Saturday April 28th, this prestigious regatta organized by ESSEC’s “Club Aviron” rowing association brought together the coxed eights of 9 major French business schools and universities.

The men’s competition comprised teams from ESSEC, HEC, ESCP, Ecole Polytechnique, Ecole Centrale Nantes, ENSTA, the University of Nantes, and the Ecole des Mines de Paris, whilst the ladies’ event was contested by teams from ESSEC, HEC, ESCP, Nantes (a combined Centrale-University team) and the University of Paris II.

Two mixed teams of ESSEC alumni also took part, and met in a final that was held in the afternoon.

In the morning and afternoon, the various competing teams came head-to-head in races on the Grand Canal of the Château de Versailles Park, under cloudless skies, with all 144 participants giving their very best before the gathered spectators. The standard of this year’s edition of the competition proved especially high, as the close-run nature of the finals confirmed.

The duel between the ladies’ coxed eights from ESCP and ESSEC was especially tight, with ESSEC emerging victorious by a mere 2 seconds. HEC finished in third place.
The second contest, even closer still, was between the men’s teams from Polytechnique
and ESCP, who were neck-and-neck for the entire race. Polytechnique emerged as winners by a mere second, with HEC again in third place.

The prize ceremony and cocktail in celebration of the victors was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Versailles, with the arrival of all the participants heralded by the Ecole Polytechnique’s brass band.
